In the United States, antifa emerged in the late 1980s in the Midwest, inspired by British anarchist publications and forming networks like Anti-Racist Action (ARA), which focused on violent confrontations with perceived far-right groups. Over time, it incorporated critical theory—a Marxist framework emphasizing power dynamics and identity-based oppression—along with concepts like "white privilege" and "intersectionality," blending class struggle with identity politics to gain traction in academic and cultural spheres.
