Kamala Harris says Pete Buttigieg was top running mate pick, but risky move

In her forthcoming memoir 107 Days, former Vice President Kamala Harris reveals she considered Pete Buttigieg her top choice for running mate in her 2024 presidential campaign.

However, she decided it was too risky to run with a gay man alongside her as a Black woman, fearing voter backlash.

Harris ultimately selected Minnesota Governor Tim Walz for his executive experience and appeal to middle-class voters.

She praised Buttigieg as a “sincere public servant” who could communicate liberal ideas to conservatives, but noted both agreed on the risks of the pairing, ABC News has reported.

The memoir also critiques Democratic leadership, including allowing President Biden to unilaterally decide to run for reelection.
