The Best Slasher Movie You’ve Never Heard Of / Reaper Rant

Welcome to Forgotten Friday, where I dig up movies and shows that the world has abandoned like VHS tapes at a garage sale.

This week: Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon (2006) — a mockumentary-slash-slasher that’s equal parts satire, love letter to the genre, and actual horror movie. Think The Office meets Halloween, with a dash of Freddy Krueger cameo for good measure.

Why did no one watch this? Terrible marketing, wrong time, wrong place — basically, it was doomed from the start. But it’s clever, hilarious, self-aware, and then pulls a genre switch halfway through that turns it into a genuinely great slasher flick.

If you’re a horror fan, this one’s essential viewing. If you’re not… well, you’ll probably just be confused why I’m so excited about it.
