Conquering Mount Lindsey | Epic Colorado 14er Climb with Stunning Views & Rugged Adventure
Join me on an unforgettable adventure as I take on Mount Lindsey (14,055 ft), one of Colorado’s most rugged and awe-inspiring 14ers! Nestled deep in the Sangre de Cristo Range, this climb offers a thrilling mix of alpine beauty, steep ridges, and panoramic views that make every step worth the challenge.
Starting from the Lily Lake Trailhead on 8/1/2025, the journey winds through lush forests and alpine meadows before opening up to breathtaking views of the surrounding peaks. As the trail steepens, Mount Lindsey reveals its rocky flanks and dramatic summit ridge. The final push to the top requires focus and determination, with loose rock and exposure adding to the adventure.
At the summit, the reward is nothing short of spectacular—sweeping views across the Sangre de Cristo Mountains, with Blanca Peak and Ellingwood Point towering nearby. This climb isn’t just about reaching the top; it’s about experiencing the raw beauty and rugged spirit of the Colorado high country.
🌄 Highlights of the climb:
Scenic approach through alpine meadows and forests
Meeting fellow mountaineers Killian and Stephanie on the ridge
Challenging summit push with loose rock and exposure (especially when I went lower right on the short knife edge).
Incredible views of Blanca Peak, Ellingwood Point, and the Sangre de Cristo Range
The rewarding feeling of standing on the summit of a Colorado 14er
⛰ Geology Spotlight – The Sangre de Cristo Range
Mount Lindsey rises from one of the most dramatic ranges in Colorado, shaped by powerful tectonic forces and time. The Sangre de Cristo Mountains are part of the Rocky Mountains’ southernmost spine, formed around 70 million years ago during the Laramide Orogeny. Massive blocks of ancient granite and metamorphic rock were thrust skyward, creating towering peaks and steep valleys. Over millions of years, glaciers carved cirques and sharp ridgelines, leaving behind the rugged beauty we see today. The striking red hues that give the range its name—“Blood of Christ” in Spanish—come from oxidized iron in the rocks, painting the mountains with a fiery glow at sunrise and sunset.
Whether you’re a fellow 14er enthusiast, planning your own ascent of Mount Lindsey, or just love epic mountain adventures, this video will take you along for the ride.
