MZTV 1824: How Could Someone as Earnest as Charlie Kirk Not Have Been Given Truth? Romans 9:30.

Few are as earnest, disciplined, organized, driven, and dedicated as was Charlie Kirk, the president of Turning Point USA, a mass political and religious movement that has inspired millions to strive for excellence and find deeper meaning in life.

Charlie not only inspired a political movement but also claimed to be a Bible-believing man and, with Bible in hand, directed these same millions to get to church so as to know God and "get saved."

As human willpower and a well-disciplined life are common traits of successful people, one would imagine that someone like Charlie Kirk would have enjoyed every success. And yet we—and only we—realize that the most treasured of all human possessions and "successes"—wisdom concerning God—was withheld from this man by God Himself, wisdom concerning God's plans, His methods, His nature, His true cause, the real reason He sent His Son to earth. Charlie Kirk understood none of these things. None of them.

Charlie Kirk, considered by many to have been the prime example on earth of a man seeking righteousness—did not find it. And I swear to you: only a handful of people on this earth naming the name of Christ could read this sentence I have just written and believe it. And yet the truth is in plain sight, written 2,000 years ago by our apostle:

"Yet Israel, pursuing a law of righteousness, into a law of righteousness does not outstrip. Wherefore? Seeing that it is not out of faith, but as out of law works, they stumble on the stumbling stone" (Romans 9:30-31).

I elaborate upon these two verses and the surrounding context in this edition of MZTV. The most startling thing you will learn is something you already know: God does not choose the wise of this eon, the hard-working, dedicated, church-going, time-managing, Bible-verse-memorizing whiz kids. Rather, He chooses the most unwise, weak, time-wasting, church-avoiding, law-skipping, life-bumbling dipshits to whom to reveal His deepest secrets.

"O, the depth of the riches and the wisdom and the knowledge of God! How inscrutable are His judgments, and untraceable His ways!" (Romans 11:33).
