Lumumba’s Africa. Healthcare Challenges in Africa. Episode 72 | RT Documentary
Millions of people in Africa continue to suffer from diseases that the health system is unable to contain. The continent is still battling malaria, HIV, and polio, alongside emerging threats such as monkeypox. As Professor Lumumba explains, many families are too poor to afford medicines or vaccinations. Meanwhile, national budgets are being stretched to cover treatment alone, leaving little for disease prevention.
Armed conflicts in some regions have brought vaccination programmes to a complete halt, creating ideal conditions for outbreaks. While individual research institutes and Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention are working to improve the situation, their efforts remain insufficient. Professor Lumumba insists that there can be no strong economy without a healthy population, and that Africa must strengthen its healthcare system as a foundation for future development.
