The Sound of Music is a popular, tuneful and enduring American film. But its portrayal of history, and especially its depiction of the 1938 union of Austria with the German Reich is a gross distortion of reality. In fact, the vast majority of Austrians joyfully welcomed the union (Anschluss) of their homeland with National Socialist Germany, and strongly, even enthusiastically, supported the Hitler government.
Though not a typical Hollyweird "anti-Nazi" film, the propaganda value of the since-immortalized 1965 musical drama The Sound of Music, starring an A list celebrity cast; Julie Andrews and Christopher Plummer, was immense. What made the movie such an effective vehicle for disinformation was the fact that the poison was delivered within the body of a heart-warming, story of an Austrian-Aryan family and the whole body of the work greatly sweetened by the beautiful singing of Andrews and the children. As a song which Andrews herself made famous in Mary Poppins goes: "a spoonful of sugar helps the medicine go down." And indeed, in the case of Sound of Music, that "medicine" was the not-so-subtle "anti-Nazi" contextual message of the film. The famous pose of Julie Andrews on the mountain was in fact a psychological subliminal depiction of the Christian cross. Indeed, the Jews used every homely artifice of the white race as coating to hide the knife of anti-Nazi hate they instilled in the subsequently self-hating goyim onlookers who then happily accept Jewish instigated mass migration from the third world into their countries as a payment for their white guilt.
