How can God be Just and Merciful at the same time? What is my "sin problem?" (Leviticus 17 Short)
God is 100% just. There are no loopholes, there are no shortcuts. Think about a judge in a courtroom. His (or her) job is to administer the law, without emotion and without exception. If that judge could be bribed, or if there was a loophole, would the court be fair?
Hebrews 9.22 “without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness”
God is also merciful (mercy is not receiving the judgment we do deserve).
Are we guilty of sin?
Romans 3.23 “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.”
I have been a Christian since Oct of 1999. In full-time ministry since 2021. The closer I get to understanding who God is, and really learning Him, the more and more I see my own guilt. Yes, I am working day by day to grow closer. The more I know, the more I realize I don’t know.
If you do not think you are guilty of sin, that you are generally a good person, be bold and ask God to show you how sinful you are. We, at our core, are selfish beings.
1 John 1.8 “If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us.”
Isaiah 53.6 “We all, like sheep, have gone astray, each of us has turned to our own way; and the Lord has laid on him the iniquity of us all.”
We are guilty of sin. What is the punishment?
Romans 6.23 “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
Death is the punishment that we deserve. BUT GOD! God did not make a loophole or make a shortcut. He paid the price that our guilt deserved.
1 John 2.2 “He is the atoning sacrifice for our sins, and not only for ours but also for the sins of the whole world.”
Romans 5.8 “But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”
Hebrews 2.17 “For this reason he had to be made like them, fully human in every way, in order that he might become a merciful and faithful high priest in service to God, and that he might make atonement for the sins of the people.
1 Peter 2.24 “‘He himself bore our sins’ in his body on the cross, so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness; ‘by his wounds you have been healed.’”
2 Corinthians 5.21 “God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.”
Romans 3.25 “God presented Christ as a sacrifice of atonement, through the shedding of his blood.
Jesus is the ultimate atonement, the price paid for our transgressions. To make us right with God. (Righteous)
