South Korea: Ex-First Lady Kim Keon Hee Bribery Scandal Rocks Unification Church |Spotlight |N18G

South Korea’s Unification Church and its leader Han Hak-Ja, revered by followers as “True Mother” and the widow of church founder Moon Sun-Myung, faced prosecutors in Seoul after skipping three earlier summons. She is accused of orchestrating bribes to former First Lady Kim Keon Hee and veteran lawmaker Kweon Seong-Dong, the latter an aide to ousted President Yoon Suk Yeol. Kim is already indicted for accepting luxury gifts worth $58,000, while Kweon was detained on September 10. Han has denied all charges but answered questions on possible political funding violations. With Yoon also on trial for insurrection, the overlapping cases have rocked South Korea’s conservative ranks.
