My name is Francisco Pizarro, and I am remembered as the man who conquered the Inca Empire. I was born around 1475 in Trujillo, Spain, the illegitimate son of a poor soldier. My childhood was hard, and I never learned to read or write. I worked tending pigs, but I dreamed of something more. Tales of the New World called to me, so I sailed across the ocean to seek my fortune. I joined expeditions in the Caribbean and Panama, where I learned about the riches of distant lands.

I became obsessed with rumors of a mighty empire in the Andes. With only a few men, I braved the seas, jungles, and mountains until we reached Peru. There we found an empire torn apart by civil war. At Cajamarca, we captured the Inca emperor, Atahualpa, even though he was surrounded by thousands of warriors. He offered us rooms full of gold and silver as ransom, and we took it, but still we executed him. His death shattered Inca unity.

We marched into Cuzco, claimed the empire, and built a new order under Spain. I became governor and founded Lima as the capital. Yet greed and rivalry poisoned even my own ranks, and I was assassinated in 1541. My life was one of ambition, courage, and cruelty, forever tied to the fall of the Inca.
