Life as a human can only be experienced in a forward time direction, as the years pass by we get moments of reflection. The privilege of looking back into the rearview mirror, contemplating the chapters of our existence. I have witnessed bizarre and shocking seasons with much suffering and trauma, rivaled by very few I meet.

I have also felt the blessings of fatherhood and the chaos of marriage. The depth of our experiences together has allowed us to grow very strong and grounded foundations as a family. When the storms came we had to dig deep, it was survival. Suffocated in the grief and cruel circumstances of life stretches profound, thriving branches and lush green leaves.

The depth of my suffering is the depth of my joy, I look back on life and am very thankful to still be alive. My body is worn before it’s time, my mind is sharp amongst the noise. History can be difficult to make sense of, the chapters of time have many shades of grey, different perspectives can be taken depending on where we stand. I will never find comfortable answers, it’s messy, confusing and harsh. I take solace in my wife's embrace and a moment spent in my children's eyes.

On any given day, within seconds, the memories are filled with compacted trauma, trying to rob me of the present gifts I have been given. Relived nightmares, confusion of the past. Some things can’t be unseen and leave a deep imprint in your skull, but it also gives great vibrance to the way I see life. The gift of life... 🙂
