Russian President Vladimir Putin, dressed in camouflage military uniform with his name and state insignia, inspected the final day of the “Zapad 2025” war games on Tuesday in the Nizhny Novgorod region. The massive Russia-Belarus drills involved more than 100,000 troops, nuclear-capable bombers, hypersonic Zircon missiles and Russia’s new Oreshnik intermediate-range ballistic missile. Moscow said the maneuvers, stretching from Belarus near NATO borders to the Arctic, were designed to practice the “unconditional protection” of the Union State and were based on lessons from the war in Ukraine. Putin thanked foreign delegations in attendance, toured military drones and equipment, and declared that the joint forces were prepared to repel any U.S. or NATO aggression.
