Unmanned and Unchecked: Confronting the Rising Threat of Malicious Drone Use in America - September 16, 2025

WASHINGTON, D.C. The House Judiciary Subcommittee on Crime and Federal Government Surveillance held a hearing on Tuesday, September 16, 2025. The hearing, "Unmanned and Unchecked: Confronting the Rising Threat of Malicious Drone Use in America," will focus on the growing threat posed by unauthorized and criminal use of Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) in both domestic and international airspace. From a surge in UAS incursions near U.S. airports-posing risks to commercial aviation-to the exploitation of UASs by criminal organizations and cartels for smuggling, surveillance, and attacks, the Committee will examine how these emerging threats endanger public safety and law enforcement operations.
