Welcome to Our Republic

In 1787 the United States had freedom, but the government was held together with duct tape and good intentions. The Articles of Confederation were a train wreck — Congress couldn’t tax, couldn’t regulate trade, and could barely agree on lunch, let alone national defense. The whole thing was one bad day away from collapse.

What followed was months of arguments, compromises, and more sweat than anyone cares to imagine… but out of it came the Constitution, a framework tough enough to still be standing more than two centuries later.
