Nobuo Uematsu, arguably the greatest video game music composer of all time, has lamented the degradation of the medium in recent years. The architect of sound for the Final Fantasy franchise claims there is too much homogeneity in the production and the scores lack a certain tinge or weirdness.

You don't even have to compare Uematsu's golden era to today's stagnant output to see the man speaks the truth, it's everywhere in the medium. Whether it's gaming, pop music or movie scores, music has collapsed in on itself thanks to untalented hacks and digital tools all following an algorithm.
