Nicholas Lane, a self-proclaimed former attorney from Chicago, appeared before Judge Fleer after being arrested in Houston. The case began with an earlier charge of evading arrest, and while out on bond, Lane allegedly committed criminal mischief by breaking a convenience store window. Surveillance video and eyewitness accounts placed him at the scene, wearing the same outfit as in the footage. Lane admitted he is unemployed and no longer licensed to practice law, while the judge questioned his credibility and pressed him on where he would live if released. The defense pushed for bond, but the judge made it clear he would not allow Lane back on the streets without a safe, stable residence.
