We mark the passing of Charlie Kirk by noting the causes that defined his public life: an insistence on robust free expression—especially on campuses—paired with a belief that ideas should be met with debate, not violence. Many will remember his talent for youth organizing and his conviction that culture and faith shape the nation’s future.

Kirk’s commentary consistently advanced socially conservative views, a critical stance toward mainstream institutions and media, and an “America First” posture in foreign policy—supportive of Israel’s security while urging caution about deeper U.S. entanglements. He argued that civic life works best when families, communities, and local institutions are strong, and when disagreement happens openly and lawfully.

In honoring his memory, we reject political violence in every form and reaffirm a simple standard: defend speech with speech, engage arguments with evidence, and treat opponents as fellow citizens. May those who agreed with him—and those who didn’t—carry forward the work of vigorous, peaceful, and principled public discourse.
