The Ghosts of Gettysburg: Spirits of the Civil War Battlefield
In July 1863, Gettysburg, Pennsylvania became the site of the bloodiest battle of the American Civil War. Over three days, more than 50,000 men were killed, wounded, or went missing. Today, many believe their spirits still linger on the battlefield.
From Devil’s Den, where phantom gunfire and ghostly sharpshooters are reported, to Pickett’s Charge, where spectral soldiers are said to march endlessly across the fields, Gettysburg is steeped in hauntings. The Farnsworth House Inn and Gettysburg College are also famed for apparitions—ghostly soldiers, spectral surgeons, and echoes of a war long past.
Skeptics dismiss the stories as imagination. Believers argue that the sheer suffering left behind echoes too strong to fade.
Join The Nocturnal Archives as we uncover the ghosts of Gettysburg—spirits of a battlefield where history refuses to rest.
