MAT 1:18-25, Now the birth of Jesus Christ was as follows: After HIS mother Mary was betrothed to Joseph, before they came together (before they had sex), she was found with child of the Holy Spirit. Then Joseph her husband, being a just man, and not wanting to make her a public example, was minded to put her away secretly. But while he thought about these things, behold, an angel of the LORD appeared to him in a dream, saying, “Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take to you Mary your wife, for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit.
But while he thought about these things, behold, an angel of the LORD appeared to him in a dream, saying, “Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take to you Mary your wife, for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit. “And she will bring forth a Son, and you shall call His name Yeshua … for HE will save HIS people from their sins.” So all this was done that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the LORD through the prophet, saying: “Behold, the virgin shall be with child, and bear a Son, and they shall call HIS name Immanuel,” (ISA 7:14) which is translated, “GOD with us.”
1. The mother is royal, perhaps the queen, and so the child is a royal prince, perhaps Hezekiah. But Hezekiah had older brothers…and Hezikiah did not ultimately save GOD’s people.2. The mother is Isaiah’s wife, and so the child is one of his sons (that is why some say he had a 3rd son. Nothing is recorded about that).
3. The prophecy does not refer to a specific mother and child but to mothers in Judah generally, who will give their offspring names symbolizing hope in GOD.4. The mother is the Virgin Mary and the child is Yeshua. Which of course is what we as followers of Yeshua believe.
The reference to the house of David means that the sign will be significant for the whole dynasty. Which Ahaz is a part of. The prophecy is given to the house of David, not simply to Ahaz. The Messianic child will be born of that house. HE is to be a symbol of GOD’s salvation of HIS people. GOD says (through Isaiah): Listen o house of David, Is it a small thing for you to weary (contend with) men, but will you weary (contend with) my GOD also?
When people demand a miracle from GOD, that shows a lack of faith. Here, however, GOD is offering a sign or a miracle and telling Ahaz to choose the sign or miracle. Declining the offer from GOD, indicates Ahaz is no interested in GOD’s will. Iti shows how hardened his heart was at that point.
LXX 7:14-15 Therefore the LORD HIMself shall give you a sign; behold, a virgin shall conceive in the womb, and shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name Emmanuel. 7:15 Butter and honey shall he eat, before he knows either to prefer evil [or] choose the good.
