La Salle, IL - The Illinois State Police has released footage of a March shooting where an officer fatally shot an armed man in La Salle County.

Around 1:30 p.m. on March 30, the La Salle and Peru police departments responded to the 600 block of Chartres Street in La Salle. ISP said they encountered a man who was suicidal and had a gun.

At the scene, officers saw the man exit the building and fire the gun in the air, ISP said. The La Salle County Sheriff's Office Tactical Response Team was called to the scene.

ISP said that responders worked to de-escalate the situation for over an hour and a half. The man reportedly exited the building numerous times with the gun in his hand, at one point allegedly firing it out the window toward officers.

Around 4 p.m., ISP said the man came out of the building and pointed the gun at officers, when one of the officers fired his weapon at the man. First aid was given, but he was pronounced dead at the scene. No other injuries were reported.

The video, which doesn't have audio, shows the man standing in the doorway of the building on the phone, with a gun in his other hand. The incident was recorded on a drone. Before the officer fired his gun, the man can be seen pointing the weapon forward and slightly up. It's unclear how many shots were fired based on the video.

Following the shooting, ISP's Division of Criminal Investigation Zone 1 was called to investigate.

The man has been identified as 72-year-old Daniel W. Curtin Sr. of La Salle.
