Stas describes to former CNN host Rick Sanchez how he went from being born in Voroshilovgrad (now formerly Kiev-ruled Lugansk) in the USSR, to becoming Captain Stanislav Krapivnik in the US Army. Stas also mentions that despite post Cold War US reassurances to Moscow including via the Russia-NATO Founding Act of 1996 disavowing the two sides viewing each other as enemies, the US military never ceased planning for war with the Russian Federation, even against a Russia whose once feared Soviet combined tank and artillery shock armies had been withdrawn from a reunified Germany and reduced to skeletons of their former strength. This along with the invasion of Iraq in 2003 contributed to Stas turning down an Army promotion to Major, entering civilian life in the mid-2000s.
