An 'X' user shared this controversial take on why ‘body count’ matters in relationships...
But do you know where the term “body count” actually comes from?

Definition of Body Count -
Traditionally, body count means the number of people killed in a battle or violent incident. It was a military term — literally counting bodies to measure the scale of conflict.

How It Started -
Originating as military slang, especially during the Vietnam War (1960s–70s), U.S. forces and media used “body count” to track success in battles — higher enemy deaths meant supposed progress. It was purely about war, violence, and casualties.

What It Means Now -
In modern slang (esp. Gen Z & Millennials), “body count” usually refers to the number of sexual partners someone has had. The meaning shifted in the 1990s–2000s, popularized through hip-hop lyrics, urban slang, and internet culture. Today, if someone asks “What’s your body count?” they’re rarely talking about war — they mean sexual history.

Current Usage -
The term still carries two meanings, depending on context:

a)Traditional: number of people killed.

b)Slang: number of sexual partners.

In short: It started with war casualties, but now it’s more about personal intimacy history.

So now what’s your take on this 'X' user’s thoughts? Because we’ve only shared it to hear your side…
