Common Ground: Gun Control

16

Before the death of Conservative debater Charlie Kirk, I began reading a Substack called GenExpletives.

I was intrigued by the name and began to read a blog on "The Ty Burns Case: A Masterclass in Oklahoma's Political Hypocrisy". I very much agreed with what I read there and even left a comment saying so. I then picked another, "The Freedom Caucus: From National Origins to Oklahoma's Chapter". I didn't agree with several things in that blog so I left a comment on the piece - which turned into us going back and forth about 6 times in the comment section. Respectfully. Informatively.

This went on for several articles - me reading and commenting, Christy (Christy Taylor is the author) commenting back - until I realized that we might have something here. We had things we definitely agreed upon and things we definitely didn't agree with, yet we could have great written conversations back and forth about our views.

We began having conversations about doing a podcast together where we could flesh out opposing views on issues while actually ending the podcast with all the things we had IN COMMON that could lead to 'fixes' for the issue.

We decided to start with education funding - and then Charlie Kirk was assassinated at a Utah Valley University. After that, we both agreed that our first - inaugural - podcast, should be about gun control.

Christy actually wrote a really honest and interesting Substack on gun control which we'll use as the starting point for our conversation. Read it before hand if you can: "Finding Common Ground: 22 Years of Teaching Gun Safety in Oklahoma" https://genxpletives.substack.com/p/finding-common-ground-22-years-of.

Christy and I hope you'll join us for - what we hope to be - a regular podcast where two people who don't politically agree, can talk about how and why they don't agree and find the places they do!

Welcome, to Common Ground.
