Unbreakable glass to stop thieves in LA

Ray Tissan is a Southern California entrepreneur who developed a shatterproof polycarbonate glass product to address the growing problem of smash-and-grab robberies in Los Angeles. The idea emerged a couple of years ago, when liquor stores, cigar shops, and jewelry stores were frequent victims of such crimes. To test the material’s resistance, Tissan and his team carried out various experiments, striking it with hammers, sledgehammers, and even cars, proving it could withstand violent attacks. Although security-grade polycarbonate already existed, he innovated by adapting and customizing the sheets according to each client’s needs, reducing costs and making the solution more accessible to business owners. After promoting it on social media, he began receiving numerous requests from merchants eager to protect themselves against crime. One of the most high-profile cases occurred in September 2024 at Kristof’s Jewelers in Westfield Fashion Square, Sherman Oaks, where thieves attempted to break into the showcases reinforced with his glass but failed, preventing any jewelry from being stolen. Tissan said he feels very proud of having created a product that protects businesses, prevents financial losses, and gives shopkeepers peace of mind, adding that every installation is also a personal satisfaction for him, seeing owners happy with the results.
