Illegal Immigrant Drags Agent, Shot Dead in Chicago Suburb

On September 12, 2025, around 9 a.m., U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents conducted a targeted vehicle stop near Grand Avenue and 25th Avenue in Franklin Park, a Chicago suburb about 20 miles northwest of downtown. The operation was part of the Trump administration's "Operation Midway Blitz," a crackdown on undocumented immigrants with criminal records in Illinois sanctuary cities.

The target, 42-year-old Silverio Villegas-Gonzalez from Mexico, was identified by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) as an undocumented immigrant with a history of reckless driving. He had lived in the U.S. for decades.

Agents approached Villegas-Gonzalez's car during the stop. He refused commands to exit, prompting agents to break the driver's side window and attempt to unlock the door. As they tried to apprehend him, Villegas-Gonzalez accelerated, driving toward the arrest team. The vehicle struck one agent, dragging him a significant distance—estimated at over 100 yards—causing severe injuries including gashes requiring stitches and multiple fractures.

Fearing for his life, another ICE officer fired several shots, striking Villegas-Gonzalez in the torso. The car then crashed into a nearby truck. Both men were rushed to Loyola University Medical Center. Villegas-Gonzalez succumbed to his wounds, while the injured agent, whose identity was not released, stabilized after treatment and was released from the hospital the next day.
