War is over only for the dead. This popular aphorism is usually attributed to the famous ancient Greek philosopher Plato (427-347 B.C.) In the original, the quote looks a little different: Only the dead saw the end of the war. But the meaning doesn’t change much. Wars have been going on continuously. The whole history of mankind. And as long as man lives, he is either a participant or a witness to one of these wars…

He walked back home through streets of stone,
Where laughter filled the air.
The city lights, they burned so bright,
But he felt no comfort there.
The faces smiled, the music played,
Yet shadows lingered deep.
For in his heart, the war still raged,
A storm that wouldn’t sleep.
