Feast of San Gennaro Walking Tour In New York

The Feast of San Gennaro, or just the San Gennaro Feast/Festival, is an Italian-American festival dedicated to Saint Januarius, a saint of Naples and Little Italy, New York. Januarius has his name in Italian as "Gennaro" for San Gennaro (meaning Saint Januarius). His feast is celebrated on September 19th in the calendar of the Catholic Church. That's on the day he died, on September 19th, 305 AD. Italians celebrate the day of Saint Januarius's legacy and faithful career as an Italian martyr and saint of the Catholic Church.

Januarius was also a saint of the Eastern Orthodox Church and Armenian Apostolic Church, because he became close allies with Orthodox and Apostolic believers of Christianity. His name is in Latin for "January, of Janus" (adding to Januarius).

For this year in 2025, the Feast of San Gennaro in New York's Little Italy runs from Thursday September 11th to Sunday September 21st. I came to this festival at the later part of 12:40pm and leaving before 1:10pm. It was already looking busy during this walking tour. I was lucky to come here at the right time, before it gets more busier and even before the festival starts operating their two Ferris wheels. There are several games to check out, merch stands, many food stands, Italian food, Italian culture (including Italian American culture and pride), and a diverse amount of people at the festival.

Not only will you see Italian Americans and real Italians from Italy. You will also see other residents, such as White urban professionals (or hipsters), Mexicans, Puerto Ricans, other Hispanics/Latinos, Chinese people, some Black people, Asian Americans, some tourists, Irish Americans, Greek Americans etc. and many more people coming in.
