Inspiration:
Shape-shifting is a common trait amongst many mythological Germanic gods, heroes, and warriors. The most famous is of course is Odin, the Allfather that can change into whatever being he wishes as he travels through the nine worlds. Loki is also a notorious nordic shape-shifting god, a two faced trickster, unpredictable, and not to be trusted. Many warrior tribes would relate with a ferocious animal and identify their fighting style with that animal. Wolves, bears, and the boar are the most prevalent. Berserkers transform into the bear, ulfhednar transform into the wolf. Shape-shifting could also be a curse. An example is seen in the sagas, where the greedy dwarf Fafnir kills his father to steal the magic gold seeking ring. The ring is cursed and he transforms into a dragon guarding his mound of treasure, he is later slain by the hero Sigurd. The werewolf is also a shape-shifting legend that has survived millennia derived from Northern Europe. Proto Germaic -wira-wulfaz ('man-wolf'), Old High German -werwolf.
