We return to the testimony of Vance Lattime Jr., one of the teenage accomplices in the murder of Gregg Smart. At just 18 years old, Vance was friends with Billy Flynn and Patrick Randall, the two boys who carried out the killing inside the Smart home. Vance drove the getaway car the night of the murder and later admitted to helping dispose of the murder weapon. He met Pamela Smart through Flynn, who was romantically involved with her, and eventually agreed to be part of the plan that led to Gregg Smart’s death.

In yesterday’s session, we heard Vance detail the crime itself, what happened afterward, and the terms of his plea agreement, which spared him a potential life sentence. The defense came out swinging on cross-examination—pressuring Vance so aggressively that he pled the Fifth at one point. Proceedings ended suddenly when the judge stopped court for a private discussion with counsel, telling jurors it had nothing to do with the trial or with Lattime.

Now, we continue with the defense’s questioning. Their line of attack may reveal clues about that mysterious sidebar, while also challenging Vance’s credibility and motives for testifying against Pamela Smart.

The 1991 Pamela Smart trial shocked the nation — a story of lust, lies, and lethal betrayal. A school media coordinator accused of seducing her 16-year-old student and masterminding the murder of her husband, Gregg Smart. Was Pamela the ultimate manipulator, or did the state spin a tale too wild to be true? Televised gavel-to-gavel, this case became must-see TV and set the stage for the true-crime obsession that followed.

👉 Watch as we relive the testimony, the drama, and the explosive moments that made this trial one of the most infamous in American history.
