Many people join the military without truly pausing to reflect on why they serve or what value it brings—not just to themselves, but to the world around them. I’ve spent a lot of time thinking about this philosophically.

Driving an incredibly powerful weapon, standing ready to act in moments that could change geopolitics, it’s easy to question the meaning of it all. On one level, it’s about ensuring stability and protecting my fellow countrymen. On another, it’s about personal growth—learning technical skills, gaining education, and developing a perspective that allows me to see how actions ripple through multiple levels of society.

Some days, it can feel like we’re just “sitting here doing nothing,” but the deeper I reflect, the more I understand the value, impact, and purpose behind service. It’s shaped me—not just as a soldier, but as a person.
