CNN is facing backlash for not referencing the transgender and antifascist messages found on a high-powered rifle and ammo used to kill Charlie Kirk. The network reported that the engravings had 'a range of phrases related to cultural issues,' after it was revealed that they included 'transgender and antifascist ideology.' The Wall Street Journal first revealed the messages, based on a notice sent to agents for the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF).

CNN did not include those details in its coverage, which included a headline reading: 'Rifle and ammo scrawled with cultural phrases found after Kirk killing.' 'Sources say phrases related to cultural issue were found scrawled on a rifle and ammunition, but it's not yet clear if they point to a motive,' the coverage stated. A similar description appeared on the network's broadcast around 11am ET. 'Phrases related to cultural issues were scrawled on rifle and ammo found near Charlie Kirk shooting,' a chyron seen on-screen read.

'CNN’s reporting reflected the information we had at the time,' a network spokesperson told The Daily Mail on Thursday. 'As we are able to confirm additional details, we will update our reporting accordingly.' The network still sparked outrage from viewers, with some accusing it of censorship.
