AAA gaming has been leaning into Game Pass and other subscription based services, but now we are learning these methods may be harming developers.

Often times companies will boast about the number of players for a new release; however, many have correctly pointed out that the number of players is not the same as sales of the game. While things like Game Pass may increase profitability for the platforms they’re on, it’s at the cost of retail sales that help the developer. If things continue as they are we could see a potential future where Game Pass and other game subscription platforms no longer have games from third party developers.
