Spamasaurus – A Synthwave Scifi Sketch

Astronauts discovered a wormhole that leads to another dimension. So of course, they had to explore it by volunteering the cook Larry to do a spacewalk. He thought he was in space to retrieve a lost can of peas but instead was sucked into a wormhole to another part of the universe.

Larry mutters, this is way above my pay grade. He tries to call back to the shuttle for help, but he exited the wormhole trillions of light years away and it will take millions of years for his signal to get back to the shuttle. Instead, he is faced with chomping jaws from a strange dinosaur creature that can somehow move in the vacuum of space. It has good eyesight too, perhaps it can even see wormholes and waits by them for food. This reptile has never tasted something from Earth before. Perhaps all the spray cheese and tang from the shuttle will add an extra flavor as he ingests poor Larry.

The deranged and cowardly scientists on the shuttle didn't even give Larry a weapon as they sent him on his mission through the wormhole. Fortunately, he packed a can of spam, and he will try and throw it into the ancient reptile's mouth to distract it long enough to slowly swim away in space. The creature ate the spam and became insatiably hungry for more...

It roars at poor Larry so loud that its sound somehow emits through the vacuum of space without even bouncing off air molecules. Perhaps it is a psychic scream. Now it is reading Larry's mind to try and figure out where he got such a tasty treat. No more dragonflies from strange insectoid planets now he is using his powers to teleport to where the good food is at. He brings Larry along to guide him to the panacea of spam treats.

Larry can only think of Hawaii where they still like using the stuff. Now the creature will teleport into a volcano to hide out while Larry secretly supplies him cans of spam.

Drawing was created with pencil and inked with micron. Later I scanned it and added color layers in photoshop with around 300 frames. Finally, I imported it into After Effects and added some particles and strange effects towards the end. The music was composed in MPC with Jura as the main synth.
