Paddling The Mississippi With 7 Kids | Day 25 – Scouting Sauk Rapids Before Our Biggest Challenge

Day 25 was a zero day on the Mississippi River but it was filled with anticipation, kindness, and preparation for what comes next for our outdoor adventure traveling vlog: the Sauk Rapids. 🌊

Known as one of the most dangerous stretches of the entire river, Sauk Rapids can run from Class I to Class III rapids depending on water levels. Some locals told us we’d flip for sure, while others insisted it’s no big deal. Today we walked to the overlook, studied the current, and debated whether or not to run it. One thing is certain: Sauk Rapids deserves respect.

We’re a family of one single mother, Smoky, and seven outdoor boys and girls paddling the entire 2,350 miles of the Mississippi River from Minnesota to the Gulf. Along the way we’ve battled wind, cold, portages, and shallow waters. Tomorrow, we face our toughest challenge yet.

But this daily life journey isn’t only about the river...it’s about the people. Our River Angels Shawn and Stacy opened their home to us, fed us ice cream and cake, and reminded us that kindness makes even the hardest journeys by canoe and kayak possible.
