Bret Alan Hughes, an author and modern-day philosopher, helped bring to life the groundbreaking visual effects as pipeline engineer supervisor of The Lord of the Rings film trilogy—which won international acclaim and three consecutive Academy Awards for Best Visual Effects.

At the same time Bret was working on these three films, he wrote a book on universal wisdom that even Nobel laureate Paul J. Crutzen praised: “Promoting a wise and respectful lasting relationship of humankind with Nature, Wisdom in Perspective will help us to triumph over ignorance, superstition, and emotional burdens of the past and the present.”

Now, in his most recent endeavor, Bret wrote “Our Ultimate Sociopolitical Reality: What We Are Facing”: a paper that he holds will “help people both profoundly comprehend society’s corruption and initiate the exponential enlightenment that humanity urgently requires to survive.”

Bret says that, while a teenager in Santa Barbara, he was so focused on answering life’s largest philosophical questions that he received four Fs, a D, and a B in high school one semester. After ending high school with straight As and receiving a BS in aeronautical engineering from Cal Poly, he became so interested in computer graphics (CG) that he changed his career before it began. Bret then honed his skills to make CG film productions as efficient as possible while working in Hawaii on the first all-CG feature film to have photorealism, Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within.

Besides adventuring around the world—including throughout China, Europe, and Mexico—Bret claims that he ascended the Great Pyramid in Egypt and found the sword Excalibur in New Zealand. Could it be possible? Maybe anything could be—including his assertion that his above paper can enlighten and save the world.
