The Hatfield-McCoy feud was a notorious and bloody conflict between two families living along the West Virginia–Kentucky border in the late 1800s. Beginning in the years following the Civil War and lasting until 1891, the dispute was fueled by a combination of factors, including a contested land deed, lingering animosity from divided Civil War loyalties, and the infamous theft of a pig.
