COVID Death Classifications Questioned by First Responders

We did witness strange things in the field with how COVID tests were classified. Can you share some examples?”

“Yes, I’ll try to keep it brief. One morning during shift change, the night crew came in as we were going out. They had just come from a jumper — someone who fell from an eight-story building. There really wasn’t anything left to transport.

Later that same day, my partner and I received a call from public health. They said the patient from that address had been swabbed for COVID and tested positive. I looked back at the call and said, ‘Wait — that was the jumper from this morning.’

I asked, ‘How exactly would you swab that? Did you bring a spatula?’ It made no sense. The patient wasn’t in a condition to be swabbed. But public health insisted it was a COVID-positive case.

You don’t need medical training to know the cause of death from jumping out of an eight-story building.
