Zombie Ants 😨 Parasitic Fungus Ophiocordyceps unilateralis

Have you ever heard of zombie ants? These ants fall victim to a parasitic fungus called Ophiocordyceps unilateralis, which takes over their nervous systems. The fungus spores attach to the ants, grow inside them, and force them to leave their colony, climb to a high spot, and clamp onto a leaf or twig before dying. The fungus then continues to grow, sprouting a stalk from the ant’s head to release new spores and infect more ants. To combat this, some ants live in trees to avoid the fungus, groom each other to remove spores, and carry infected ants away from the colony to prevent the spread of the infection. #shortvideos #viralvideo #viralshorts #nature #facts #fungus #ants #insects #animals #infection #parasite
