My father was the doctor there twice, once before the 1961 volcano eruption, when my oldest sister was born on the island, and then he went back with the islanders when they returned in 1963. I was then born on the island and my 'claim to fame' was that I was the first person born there after the volcano erupted. We left when I was very small, but I returned for three months when I left school in 1983. A fantastically interesting place.
