Welcome back to another episode of our epic HiAce camper conversion journey! Matt and Chrissy here from Couple of Sitters, and we're back from our New Zealand adventure to continue the never-ending van reno project.

In today's episode, we tackle some serious electrical mysteries that had us scratching our heads. We discovered that our ceiling fan circuit wasn't working as expected, and what we thought was a simple solar installation issue turned out to be a confusing fuse panel setup that has fans interconnected in ways that don't match the diagram!

We spent yesterday making a trip to Bunnings and our direct importer to pick up the felt that will transform the harsh wooden interior of our van. The felt will provide much-needed soft furnishings and help reduce the stark, all-wood appearance while keeping the weight down - crucial for any HiAce camper conversion.

Our progress continues with installing 3mm ply panels on the sides of the van, particularly around the king-size drawer areas where we've created smooth cupboard cavities. We've been working late into the night, sometimes until 8 PM, to get these panels perfectly fitted with proper padding behind them.

One of the key improvements we're making is reinforcing the areas where our GPOs (power outlets) and solar touch control panel will be mounted. We've added an extra layer of 3mm ply to create a solid 12mm substrate, ensuring that when you plug and unplug devices, you won't risk pulling the entire power point out of the wall - a common problem in lightweight van builds.

Today's focus is on cutting and fitting more 3mm ply panels for the walls, complete with precisely measured holes for wire access. We'll be moving on to tackle the roof installation, contouring the ply across the ceiling and attaching it to the support battens while ensuring we maintain access to our vent fans and lighting fixtures.

The roof work requires careful planning as we have multiple lights and two fans that need proper access points. We're measuring everything twice to ensure our wire routing and fixture installation will be seamless.

This HiAce camper conversion is proving to be quite the journey - much like a house renovation, there's so much foundational work that happens underneath that you don't really see before the dramatic finishing touches. We're hoping that once we complete this phase, the felt installation and final touches will come together quickly.
