Nintendo Wins MASSIVE $2M Case Against Switch Piracy & Modding
Nintendo of America just scored a HUGE legal victory against console modding and piracy. A U.S. federal court hit Ryan Michael Daly — aka “Modded Hardware” — with a $2 million judgment and a permanent injunction that completely wipes out his modding business.
From the MIG Switch and MIG Dumper to pre-hacked consoles and pirated games, Daly’s operation has been shut down, with all devices seized and destroyed. Nintendo argues these tools cause “irreparable harm” by fueling piracy and damaging consumer trust.
But here’s the bigger question: is this about protecting games, or controlling players? This case could reshape the future of modding, homebrew, and even game preservation.
What do YOU think — is Nintendo justified, or did they go too far?
