The Stand

Stephen King’s "The Stand" (1994) was originally a four part post-apocalyptic TV mini-series and an adventure horror story in the very best tradition.

"The Stand" is loosely based on Robert McCammon’s (1987) best-selling novel, "Swan Song", arguably the best post-apocalyptic horror novel ever written.

The plot centres round an incurable influenza disease which spreads through the US leaving only a handful of survivors of both good and evil to battle it out between them. The good are led by Mother Abagail Freemantle played by Whoopi Goldberg and the evil by the Devil Randall Flagg, played by Jamey Sheridan.

The original four parts have been combined into one full-length movie making it into a six hour epic, but the focus on each character and the role they play makes it anything but boring.
