Hear His Voice

Sh’ma (Hear)

Deuteronomy 6:4-7

“Hear, O Israel: YeHoVaH our Elohim, YeHoVaH is one!
You shall love YeHoVaH your Elohim with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your might.
These words which I declare to you today shall be in your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children…”

Deuteronomy 28:1 (LITV)

“And it shall be if listening you will listen to the voice of YeHoVaH your Elohim, taking heed to do all His commandments which I command you this day, YeHoVaH your Elohim shall give you to be on high above all nations of the earth.”

The common English translation of the part of this verse that says something like, “listening you will listen to the voice,” is actually one Hebrew word Sh’ma or Shema.

Deuteronomy 8:18

“You shall remember YeHoVaH your Elohim, for it is He who gives to you power to make wealth, that He may establish His covenant which He swore to your fathers, as it is this day.”

Most English Bible versions translate this verse to say, “gives you power to get wealth.” They misunderstand the meaning to the word asah, a root word meaning “to make.”

This Hebrew word is first used in Genesis chapter one. It involves fashioning, shaping, squeezing, and molding, similar to how a potter handles clay.

Genesis 1:26 (NASB)

Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; and let them rule over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the sky and over the cattle and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.”

“Let Us make man in Our image” tells us of His meticulous fashioning of the man (male & female) into His own likeness/image. This word, as it is used in Deuteronomy 8:18, “gives to you power to make wealth,” has the same meaning and gives us a visual of how He gives us power/ability to fashion our wealth. We must, however, receive what He says.
