Army extends orders for DC National Guard through November

The Army has extended the deployment of about 950 D.C. National Guard troops through Nov. 30, though President Trump could shorten or further extend it.

The decision, approved by Army Secretary Dan Driscoll, allows Guard members and their employers to plan around the longer orders and prevents gaps in pay or benefits.

Trump mobilized the Guard last month to address crime in Washington, D.C., though troops have mainly been seen doing cleanup and landscaping work as part of a “beautification” push, ABC News has reported.

About 1,300 additional Guard troops from other states remain under their governors’ control, with many already ordered to stay through December.
