On the night of December 2–3, 1984, the city of Bhopal, India, witnessed one of the world’s worst industrial disasters. A leak of methyl isocyanate gas from the Union Carbide pesticide plant spread across the city, exposing hundreds of thousands of people. Thousands died within days, and many more suffered long-term health problems, including respiratory issues, blindness, and birth defects.
