Ajit Pawar Sparks Row After Video Shows Him Rebuking IPS Officer Over Solapur Soil Mafia Action

Mumbai: Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister and NCP leader Ajit Pawar has landed in the eye of a storm after a viral video showed him sharply rebuking IPS officer Anjana Krishna during her crackdown on illegal murrum (soil) excavation in Solapur district.

The clip, shot near Kurdu village, Madha tehsil, records Pawar saying, “I will take action against you… I am myself talking to you and you are asking me to call you directly… itna aapko daring hua hai kya (how dare you?).”

According to officials, Krishna was acting on complaints of illegal soil mining when local villagers resisted the police. NCP worker Baba Jagtap reportedly called Pawar and handed the phone to the officer, triggering the heated exchange.

The video’s circulation has sparked charges of political intimidation and shielding the soil mafia. Pawar later issued a statement saying his remarks were aimed at defusing tensions and not at interfering in law enforcement, adding he has the “highest respect for the police force and the rule of law.”

Maharashtra CM and Home Minister Devendra Fadnavis has not commented on the matter yet.
Meanwhile, NCP (SP) MP Supriya Sule slammed the attack on Krishna’s credentials, calling it an “assault on constitutional guarantees and gender equality.”

The episode has ignited a debate over political pressure on police officers handling illegal mining rackets in the state.
