Which is the mosque of piety mentioned in the Holy Quran?

I begin in the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. , by the grace of Allah Almighty, today we are beginning Statement No. 16. and will be describe That which is the mosque of piety mentioned in the Holy Quran?, So sisters, brothers friends and elders, Our aim is to learn and teach from the Quran and Sunnah, understand the rulings, reflect on history, and seek solutions to problems with divine guidance. May Allah Almighty make this statement beneficial and a source of light for all hearts.

The concept of the Masjid of Piety mentioned in Surah At-Tawbah has great spiritual significance in Islam, as it represents the true essence of worship, sincerity, and obedience to Allah. Allah Almighty says in Surah At-Tawbah, verse 108: "Never stand therein. A mosque founded on piety from the first day is more worthy of you to stand therein. In it are people who love purity, and Allah loves those who keep themselves pure." . This verse was revealed in contrast to the so-called "Masjid al-Dar" (the Sacred Mosque), which the hypocrites had built to create division among the Muslims. Instead, Allah Almighty guides the Prophet? and the believers to the Masjid al-Taqwa, which was founded on the basis of piety, sincerity, and the worship of Allah alone. Scholars have explained that this "Masjid al-Taqwa" is widely identified with the name Masjid al-Qaba, which was the first mosque built by the Messenger of Allah? upon his arrival in Medina after the migration. Thus, the Quran sets a clear standard: Mosques should be built for piety, not for hypocrisy, division, or worldly gain.

The Masjid al-Taqwa, or Masjid al-Qaba, holds a special place in the history of Islam. When the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) left Mecca for Medina, he stayed for several days in Qaba, a village near Medina, and laid the foundation of the mosque there with his own hands. It became the first mosque built in Islam, the House of Allaah established purely for His worship and remembrance. This mosque was not built for prestige or enmity, but for piety, spiritual purification, and unity among the believers. Allaah praises in Surah At-Tawbah, verse 108 those who frequent this mosque: "…in it are those who love to purify themselves, and Allaah loves those who purify themselves" . The people of Quba were known for their cleanliness and for their cleanliness, both outward and inward, which is why Allah Almighty highlighted this standard of theirs as an example for all Muslims.

Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) himself emphasized the greatness of the Quba Mosque. Sunan Ibn Majah, Hadith 1412; narrated by al-Albani that He (peace be upon him) said : “Whoever purifies himself in his house and then comes to the Quba Mosque and prays, he will have a reward equal to that of performing Umrah.”. This hadith shows that worshipping in this mosque brings immense spiritual rewards, which highlights its status as a “mosque of piety.” The reward of praying there and performing Umrah shows how much Allah Almighty has honored this mosque. mentioned in (Sahih al-Bukhari, Hadith 1193; Sahih Muslim, Hadith 1399 The Prophet (peace be upon him) would ride or walk to the Quba Mosque every week and pray two rak’ahs there. Their regular visits highlight the importance of the mosque and the importance of maintaining a relationship with the one who is established on sincerity and piety.

In contrast, the Quran condemns the hypocrites who built the so-called Masjid al-Dar for nefarious purposes. Allah Almighty explains this: "And there are those who made the mosque a place for themselves to cause harm and to cause disbelief and division between the believers and those who fought against Allah and His Messenger before, and they will surely swear that we intended nothing but good, and Allah bears witness that they are indeed liars." Here we see a clear distinction: one mosque is built purely for the pleasure of Allah (the Masjid al-Taqwa) and the other is built for hypocrisy, division and evil (the Masjid al-Haram). Prophet (PBUH) You were commanded not to stand in the mosque of the hypocrites at all, but to lead the prayer in the Masjid al-Qaba and set an example. This divine command teaches Muslims an essential principle: the value of a mosque lies not in its architecture or outward appearance, but in the sincerity, piety, and unity it represents.

The Masjid al-Taqwa is therefore a symbol of what all mosques should be: centers of piety, spiritual purification, and worship of Allah. They should be places that strengthen the unity of Muslims, teach them humility, and keep them away from hypocrisy. The Quranic description also emphasizes the importance of cleanliness in maintaining a true relationship with Allah - both physical and spiritual. This is why Allah praises the people of Quba for their love of self-purification, reminding believers that true piety includes both internal and external cleanliness.

The Masjid of Taqwa mentioned in Surah At-Tawbah verse 108 is Masjid Quba, the first mosque built in Islam by the Prophet (PBUH) and his companions. It was founded on sincerity, piety, and the love of Allah, in contrast to the hypocrites’ Masjid of Harm. Mentioed in (Sunan Ibn Majah, Hadith 1412) The Prophet (PBUH) declared that praying in Masjid Quba brings the reward of an ‘Umrah, and he regularly visited it, showing its importance in Islamic practice. This teaches Muslims that the true value of any mosque lies not in its outward beauty but in the purity of intention behind it and the righteousness of those who frequent it. As Allah says in Surah At-Tawbah, verse 108: “A mosque founded on righteousness from the first day is more worthy for you to stand in”. This timeless message makes Masjid Quba a lasting example of the real purpose of building mosques: the worship of Allah, the cultivation of taqwa, and the unification of the believers.

We conclude today's discourse with this humble supplication: O Allah, purify our hearts, accept our deeds, forgive our sins, and include us among Your grateful servants. Bless us in our time, our families, and our faith, and gather us under the shade of Your mercy on the Day of Judgment. Amen
