Interpol has spearheaded a major cybercrime crackdown across Africa, known as Operation Serengeti 2.0, involving investigators from 18 African nations and the UK. The operation, which took place between June and August, resulted in the arrest of over 1,200 suspects and the recovery of nearly $100 million. Highlights include the dismantling of 25 illegal cryptocurrency mining centres in Angola, the disruption of an inheritance scam in the Ivory Coast, and the targeting of a vast online investment fraud in Zambia. The crackdown comes amid a significant increase in cybercrime, with online fraud reports spiking 3,000% in some African countries over the past year, as per an Interpol port.
