Big Block Modifieds at Durango Park

A National career race at Durango Park Raceway on Expert difficulty. The track surface is mostly smooth with a few bumps on the very bottom of the track, but does not seem to upset the car. There is plenty of room for maneuverability around traffic. The track does get slick below the cushion after Qualifying and slowly gets worse, leaving a small strip on the bottom and the cushion for traction. After Qualifying the bottom lane does smaller with each session, mostly disappearing by Feature time. Expect lap times to fall as the night progresses. I find the bottom fastest through the Heats, the cushion mostly equal for the Dash, and then the cushion for the Feature. Entering the corners on the cushion and then diving to the bottom of the corner for the exit seems fastest for the Feature, but not by much and easy to miss your mark.

A great race with 3 cautions. The first caution came as Justin Stone and another car made contact with Stone spinning out and getting collected by a couple other cars. I did get into the back of Peter Quakenbush as he checked up quite a bit for the spun car. The 2nd caution came for Max McLaughlin as he barrel rolled down the front stretch after being ran into by Marc Johnson. The 3rd and final caution was for Jack Lehner and Billy Decker, as they connected and both spun out. Generally traffic navigation was great with some sliders and dive bombs. With the exception of getting into Quakenbush from the early caution, I think I had a clean race, no other cars touched. I did scrape the wall a couple times on this slick track. Overall this race turned out great, especially considering the slickness of the surface and not much of a cushion to grab on the exit.
