Colombian soldiers doused with gasoline, set on fire during mission to destroy cocaine lab

Two Colombian soldiers were seriously burned after being doused with gasoline and set on fire during an anti-drug operation in Putumayo, near the Ecuadorian border.

The attack occurred as military personnel attempted to destroy a cocaine lab, and the army accused the Comandos de Frontera, a dissident FARC faction, of orchestrating the assault and coercing local civilians.

Such violent incidents have become increasingly common in Colombia amid rising criminal activity, including drug trafficking, illegal mining, and extortion, which have worsened the country’s security crisis, CBS News has reported.

Authorities are taking action against the armed groups involved, while peace talks with guerrilla factions like the ELN and dissident FARC units remain fragile and sporadically disrupted by attacks.
